First Camping Trip 2015

It finally stopped raining (we thought) so we headed out Friday afternoon to go camping up Spanish Fork Canyon. It started out cloudy and windy, but cleared up luckily by the time we wanted to eat dinner and the weather was beautiful.

We went on a nature walk that ended up getting us way off track and we had to trail blaze a little. When we finally got out of the brush, we ended up about 50 yards from where we started. There was a small river - we thought it was going to be a creek, but it ended up being a little bigger than we expected. Nobody fell in, so it was fine.

Noah and I joined in for the afternoon fun and dinner, then came home to sleep. Noah's still a pain to put to bed at home and would have been awful getting to sleep there. We'll let him sleep over next year if he shapes up his act.

When Bryan was getting the boy's backpacks ready, he put a granola bar in each one and told them it was their emergency rations and they were not to eat them unless they had no other food. As soon as we got everything out of the car and got settled, Gus said he was hungry, grabbed his backpack and pulled out the granola bar, much to Bryan's annoyance. He told Gus to put it away and it was only for an emergency, but Gus started munching away. Noah came out of the tent, so Gus ran and grabbed Noah's emergency granola bar out of his backpack. Jacob came out and saw what was going on, so he got his out. Bryan was totally beside himself at this point, convinced we were all going to starve to death now.
After a few minutes I told the boys we were going down to the river, and Gus insisted on bringing the plate his granola bar was on, as well as the fork he was using to eat it. He took 3 steps, then handed me the plate and asked me to carry it for him.

Jacob quickly added his to the plate.

We had tinfoil dinners to eat, but Bryan and his brother wanted to toss a steak on the coals as well. It ended up pretty tasty.

Good first camping trip of the season!
