Christmas!!

This year we spent Christmas in Maryland. We got a few things done around here first, like going to the aquarium and seeing the lights at Thanksgiving Point.

This was the day it snowed A TON, so they brought some in for the penguins to enjoy. We were super bummed they closed the zoo that day, because we wanted to see the polar bear roll around in it.

We went to see the lights at Thanksgiving Point and Gus and Jacob rarely fall asleep in the car. But apparently the lights were so exciting it wore them right out, at least I though. Jacob was totally faking.

The week before Christmas we made it to the airport, onto the plane, through a 4 hour flight and got our luggage without any meltdowns. It was a huge success already.

This is how Noah made his way through the entire airport after we got to Baltimore.

We got there on a Friday and the next day went to the Christmas tree farm to pick out a tree.

It was a pretty, wide, full tree, but looked much smaller in the vast outdoors than it ended up being in the living room. They had to chop off a couple of inches off the top to make it fit, and even then it was bending at the top against the ceiling. The boys, especially Gus, had fun putting the ornaments on after Bryan scientifically figured out how to run the lights (at one point I heard him ask his dad "how do I find the surface area of a cone?")

The weather was pretty warm - sweatshirts were almost too hot - on the days it didn't rain, but it ended up raining a lot. Fortunately it was a warm rain, so it was fine.

Making Christmas cookies

Jacob missed his class Christmas party, so he decided to plan his own party. We played stop and go, a throwing game, pin the Baby on the Manger, Pie Face and a candy/cake walk. Even though we talked about him missing his class party, it didn't quite hit until he brought home the paper on Wednesday giving the parents information about it. He told me we needed to buy him some holiday pajamas and I told him that was the party he was going to miss. He melted, then pouted, then got over it.
During the party, I only got pictures of Pie Face.

We went to the Air and Science Museum at Dulles. The boys got to check out a Cessna, and it was cool to see the Discovery Shuttle.

On the way home we crossed the river on a car ferry. They loved it.

Christmas Eve - putting out Santa's snacks. Dr Pepper, Gardettoes, citrus cookies, milk and carrots..
Bryan's mom set up a Christmas book advent calendar, where the boys open a Christmas book every night till Christmas. This was the last book .

Christmas Morning! .

They got lots of Legos and put them all together within two days.

Noah spent lots of time stealing other peoples snacks and candy they left out unattended.

It was pretty warm on Christmas, so we went to the park. It started sprinkling rain when we were walking over and within about ten minutes was coming down pretty steadily. The boys wanted to keep playing, so we stuck around till we were all soaked. Bryan's mom came to rescue us.

Jacob was pretty set on doing a Christmas party and gingerbread houses while we were there.

Gus's fell down and he declared that was his intent to begin with. He threw more candy on top and called it a day.

Noah helped by eating them when nobody was around. That kid has no shame.

We did a fire the next night. The boys had a blast running around in the dark. They got remote control cars with lights, so they were driving those around for a while too.

The day before we left we went to the National Aquarium. That place is full of sharks - I really like it.

We flew back to Utah the next day, again no melt downs. We had to get up really early for our flight, so we were hoping the boys would sleep a little, didn't happen. but when we got home Noah crashed for a long time, which was nice. Gus went to bed really early too. The time change from Utah to Maryland is ok, we all adjusted pretty fast, but moving back to Utah time was a killer. Overall, this trip was a huge success and we had a blast. The boys asked a few time if we could do some stuff that is meant for summer, so we promised them the next time we come, we'd come in the summer. So I guess that sets us up for the summer 2017!
